VETERINARY SERVICES

A veterinarian's ability to diagnose and treat a dog's ailments is just as important as his or her ability to prevent, diagnose, and treat them. We communicate well with dog owners to ensure they understand their dog's health concerns and how to make the best choices for them. We are able to handle most procedures including preventive care, medical diagnosis, and emergency surgery for animals of all ages, breeds, and situations. Our services include:

  • Allergy Testing

  • Anesthesia:

  • Behavior Issues

  • Skin Issues

  • Diagnostic imaging

  • Pain-management

  • Vaccinations:

  • Well Exams.

WELL CARE

Most pets require yearly physicals, and others require semiannual physicals, based on their age, health status, and prior illnesses.

During the physical exam, we will review various aspects of your dog's health, including:

  • Vaccination Status

  • Parasite Control

  • Dental Health

  • Exercise

  • Behavior

  • Xrays - primarily for an older dog

After the physical exam, our veterinarian will discuss with you the findings and what, if anything, should be done to keep your pet in optimal health.

See our Health & Wellness Page for more information.

ANTI PARASITIC MEDICATIONS AND TREATMENTS

Parasites found in or on domestic dogs and cats can be internal or external, and the most common of these are:

External Parasites

  • Fleas

  • Ticks

  • Ear mites

  • Skin mites, such as those that cause demodectic mange

Internal Parasites

  • Heartworm, which lives in the heart and lungs

  • Intestinal worms, including hook worm, tape worm, round worm, whip worm and coccidia

  • Giardia, which lives in the small intestine and feeds off the blood supply

Intestinal parasites can cause a range of problems from fatal illnesses including heartworm (heart failure) and Lyme disease (tick bites), to unpleasant allergic reactions and chronic skin irritation. If left untreated, parasites can also be transferred from animals to people and household items. It's crucial to notify us if you observe any signs of parasites in dogs or cats.

BOARDING

Osborne Animal Clinic provides boarding for pets! Your cat or dog must have been examined by our veterinarian within the last year, be current on both Bordetella and flu vaccinations, and be a current patient in order to board with us. We guarantee that each of the animals staying in our clinic has a medical history by knowing their medical history. If your pet is not a current patient, you may make an appointment for a pre-boarding physical exam with our veterinarian.

SURGERY

Subsequent to a surgical procedure, your pet must be observed for a period of time to ensure that there are no postoperative complications. Common urgent surgical procedures include:

  • Skin lacerations or abscesses

  • Intestinal obstruction from a foreign body

  • Internal bleeding

  • Torn cruciate or ACL ruptures

  • Fracture repair

  • Skin malignant tumors

  • Bladder stones or urethral blockages

  • Splenic cancer.

Common elective surgical procedures include:

  • Spay and Neuter

  • Dental extractions

  • Benign skin growths

DENTISTRY

Your pup's teeth and gum issues will be checked for at each visit. Oral and dental injuries such as gingivitis, broken teeth, and periodontal disease, as well as other painful dental and oral issues, are of special interest to us. A veterinary dental cleaning may be recommended by our veterinarians. You should be aware of your dog's dental issues by being proactively vigilant. Signs of problems with your dog's dental health. may include any of the following symptoms:

  • Problems eating and loss of appetite

  • Gums that are red, swollen, or bleeding,

  • Loose, broken, or missing teeth,

  • Bad breath / Halitosis

  • Blood in saliva or nasal discharge

  • Mouth lesions

Should you notice these symptoms; you should schedule an appointment with OAC as soon as possible:

Patients should be dropped off between 8:00 am and 8:45 am Monday through Friday to allow enough time for the technicians to prepare for the procedure. Dental procedures can range from blood samples to pre-anesthetic medications. Once the patient is ready for the procedure, we may proceed with it. Patients may receive teeth cleaning and polishing or tooth removal or other routine oral surgery.

NAIL TRIMMING AND DREMELING

The main benefit of nail trimming and dremeling is that it provides numerous health advantages for your animal. It's much more comfortable for your pet to make daily activities. When nails are too long, they can interfere with normal walking. As a result, pets may limp or press their feet down in unusual positions—which may cause pain and muscle pulls. Longer nails are more likely to become entangled in objects and may be torn out or broken, which can result in pain, infections, and veterinary emergencies. Once your pet has a nail problem, they will require sedation or even general anesthesia in order to treat it painlessly and effectively.
